Launched in 1944 from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Maine, the USS Razorback entered Tokyo Harbor in 1945 with 11 other submarines to take part in the formal surrender of Japan. After being awarded five battle stars in the Pacific Theater during World War II and four stars during the Vietnam War, the USS Razorback was sold to the Turkish Navy in 1970 and recommissioned as the TCG Muratreis, conducting missions in the Black Sea and along the Marmara Sea coast until 2001. The submarine was sold to the City of North Little Rock in 2004 and then transferred across the Atlantic Ocean to its final home in Arkansas.
More than just a military museum, it also offers a research library, a theater, and a large museum area. With several guided tours, AIMM focus is to commemorate America's rich naval and maritime heritage through the preservation and exhibition of historic naval vessels with an emphasis on the era of World War II through the present.

The names of 461 Arkansans killed in the Korean War are listed on beautiful black granite panels. The panels also contain interesting and informative information concerning the Korean War. The information panels surround impressive statues of seven foot tall combat soldiers and Korean children. The symbolism of the statues is explained on an information panel. A unique aspect of this Memorial is the fact that most of the money for the construction of the Memorial came from the Republic of Korea to honor the veterans that fought and died for their freedom. This is one of the most impressive Korean War Memorials in the United States. Take time to come, see, and learn more about the Korean War; it will be time well spent.

The new Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site Visitor Center opened in September 2007 to mark the 50th anniversary of the high school's desegregation, when nine African-American students entered the school under federal troop protection. In 1957 the school became a crucial battleground in the struggle for civil rights. The nation watched as the "Little Rock Nine" attempted to enter the previously all-white school. With the help of television news, then in its infancy, the events commanded worldwide attention. Dramatic images of the conflict, along with the school's facade, seared themselves into the public's memory. Little Rock came to symbolize the federal government's commitment to eliminating separate systems of education for blacks and whites.

The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, located in the historic Arsenal Building, interprets our state's military heritage and honors the contributions of Arkansas servicemen and women, at home and abroad, who served in military conflicts from the state's territorial period to the present. The Arsenal Building, a National Historic Landmark and one of Little Rock's oldest surviving structures, was built in 1840 to protect Arkansans from Indian attack. It witnessed pivotal exchanges between Federal and Confederate forces during the Civil War and later became the birthplace of General of the Army Douglas MacArthur. The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History ensures that "old soldiers never die." Instead, their sacrifice and service are preserved for future generations.
The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History announces a new exhibit focused on Arkansans who have received the nation’s highest individual military service award: the Medal of Honor. The exhibit, “By the President in the Name of Congress: Arkansas Medal of Honor Recipients,” opens to the public Friday, in advance of Veteran’s Day.
The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy that can be bestowed upon an individual in the Armed Services of the United States. The award recognizes action distinguished by gallantry “at the risk of life, above and beyond the call of duty.” Established early in the Civil War, the Medal of Honor rose to prominence in American military history. Fewer than 3,500 Americans have received the award and today approximately 100 recipients survive.
The exhibit examines the 25 Arkansans whose service – above and beyond the call of duty – earned them the Medal of Honor. “Their bravery and sacrifice exemplify the rich military heritage of our state and its citizens,” says Stephan McAteer, museum director.
