One of the more popular New Year Resolutions people make is to read more. There’s no better place to help you meet that goal than the Little Rock River Market.
One of the more popular New Year Resolutions people make is to read more. There’s no better place to help you meet that goal than the Little Rock River Market.
The River Market is home to Library Square, the Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) Main Branch Campus. Library Square includes the Main Library, the largest of the 14 branch libraries at CALS; the Bobby L. Roberts Library for Arkansas History & Art, which houses the offices and archives of the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies; and the exhibition and retail spaces at The Book Store at Library Square.
At Library Square, you can check out a book, join a book club, enroll in a summer reading program, take in uniquely Arkansas art or do genealogy research. You can also purchase your favorite titles at the Bookstore at Library Square or the at quarterly used book sales at the main branch basement!
The CALS Main Branch, the flagship of the central Arkansas Library System, is housed in the renovated Fones Brothers Warehouse. The 132,000-square-foot facility opened in 1997 and features the names of historic literary giants carved into the building’s façade. The library offers patrons thousands of books and resource materials for children and adults as well as e-books, audiobooks, music, magazines, and podcasts. Those looking to learn more about their favorite titles can attend Adult Book Chats, while children’s Storytime events bring classic tales to life. And you can caffeinate at the Nexus Nook, a cute, cozy coffee spot on the main floor. The library also offers many technology classes throughout the year for those who are looking to level up their skills.
Steps away from the Main Branch, the Galleries at Library Square is home to three floors of books, gifts and more. With regularly featured specials on books for sale, you can find plenty of material to keep your mind occupied. It’s also home to an art gallery that features regularly changing exhibits that showcase local artistic talents. Be sure to explore all that Library Square has to offer on your next stroll through downtown!
