S.G. Goodman, a Kentucky native, delves into the complexities of love and its aftermath in her sophomore album, Teeth Marks. Her debut album, Old Time Feeling, earned her praise as an “untamed rock n roll truth-teller” as she narrated her upbringing as the daughter of a crop farmer and a queer woman in a rural town.
Drawing from personal experiences and observations, Goodman explores the marks love leaves on individuals and communities. Teeth Marks, co-produced in Athens, Georgia, by Drew Vandenberg, sees Goodman evolving her sound with downtown Velvet Underground electricity while maintaining her searing, universal perspective.
Influenced by artists like the Velvet Underground, Pavement, Karen Dalton, and Chad VanGaalen, Goodman’s album offers 11 powerful vignettes that venture into indie rock and punk territory. Through introspective lyrics, Teeth Marks explores not only romantic relationships but also the impact of love on communities, families, and self, delving into the psychological and physical imprints of love’s light and darkness.
