The Little Rock Zoo is proud to be home to four remarkable sloth bears: females Khali and Hani, and males Sahaasa and Pabu. Native to India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, sloth bears play a vital role in their ecosystems by controlling insect populations and aiding in seed dispersal, which helps maintain the biodiversity of their habitats.
Unfortunately, sloth bears face numerous threats in the wild, with habitat loss due to deforestation and human encroachment being the most significant. In addition, these bears are at risk of poaching and the illegal wildlife trade, which further endangers their populations.
Come visit the Zoo to meet Khali, Hani, Sahaasa, and Pabu, and learn more about the important contributions sloth bears make to their natural environments. Your visit supports the conservation of these incredible animals and helps protect their future.
