These days, what’s really big to us are the small things. We’re all about authentic experiences – how we travel, what we eat and where we shop. The holiday season is no exception. We enjoy getting out in the hustle and bustle of it all, on quests to find that special something that will create memories. One of the best ways to do that is on a small scale. It’s the small shop owner who is making handmade items for you to notice, appreciate and purchase. Maybe the popular saying should be rephrased, “Go Small or Go Home.”
Saturday, November 24, is Small Business Saturday, a nationally-recognized initiative designed to promote local businesses across the U.S. Head down to the River Market District Saturday, 10 AM -3 PM, for the Second Annual Think BIG, Shop Small pop-up block party. The free event along the streets of President Clinton Avenue showcases River Market favorites like The Barn Mercantile, Freckled Frog, Fringe, LUV and Shop the Rock, along with more than 60 artisan vendors who have everything from handmade jewelry and art to unique gifts and Arkansas-inspired creations. Even the kiddos have special activities like face painting, gingerbread crafts and more.
As if shopping weren’t enough, add to the mix a little beer, wine and mimosas along with live music and Christmas Karaoke! Don’t forget to step in the market hall for a bite to eat, then back out to grab a group selfie in front of a parked Rock Region METRO Streetcar. What’s not to love about this event? We can’t think of anything, either.
Take a moment and think about the best gift you’ve ever received. Our guess is it was a special keepsake that carries lifelong memories. That’s what shopping local does. It’s the experience of giving and receiving. It’s the ultimate experience.
