Fifty years later, the story of K. Hall & Sons is still rooted in the same values that started it all: hard work, community, and care.
What began in 1975 as a man selling fruits and vegetables out of the back of his truck has grown into a multi-generational, family-owned restaurant and a newly inducted member of the Arkansas Food Hall of Fame.
This year marks more than an anniversary. It marks a legacy built on hard work, resilience, and a deep commitment to serving Little Rock.
A Humble Beginning Rooted in Arkansas
K. Hall & Sons began in Wrightsville, Arkansas, just outside Little Rock. Founder Knoxie Hall, known to many as K. Hall, sold fresh produce door to door, traveling from his farmland into nearby neighborhoods. Squash, peas, and watermelon filled the truck bed, and every stop was built on trust and connection.
That same drive eventually led him into downtown Little Rock, where he set up a small fruit and vegetable stand in an old gas station lot. As demand grew, the business moved inside the building, creating a permanent home that still serves the community today.
From the beginning, the mission was simple. Make fresh food accessible and serve people well.
Growing with the Community
As Little Rock grew, K. Hall & Sons grew alongside it.
What started as a produce stand expanded with the addition of a small kitchen, offering simple and satisfying meals like cold-cut sandwiches and Frito pies topped with chili and cheese. Over time, the menu continued to evolve, adding burgers, chicken, fish, and the comfort foods that would make the restaurant a local favorite.
One of the most defining chapters came after Hurricane Katrina. As families displaced from New Orleans settled in Little Rock, K. Hall & Sons listened and responded. Seafood boils were introduced to offer familiar flavors and a sense of home. What began as a way to support new neighbors soon became a tradition known today as Seafood Saturday.
The response did not stop there. A dedicated Louisiana section was added to the store, featuring sausage, spices, and staple items that reflect the cultures and communities the business continues to serve.
A Family Legacy Three Generations Strong
K. Hall & Sons has operated from the same location since 1975 and has remained family-owned every step of the way.
The business was passed down through generations and is now operated by David Hall Sr. alongside his sons, David Hall Jr. and Devin Hall. Together, they continue the values established decades ago, focusing on consistency, hard work, and care for every customer who walks through the door.
That continuity is what makes K. Hall & Sons feel less like a restaurant and more like a gathering place. For many Little Rock families, it is a place filled with memories that span generations.
Known for Flavor & Built on Community
Ask locals what K. Hall & Sons is known for, and you will hear the same favorites again and again. Pork chops, wings, burgers, and chicken remain top sellers, while Seafood Saturday continues to draw crowds from across Central Arkansas.

The business regularly gives back by sponsoring local athletic events, supporting churches, and partnering with organizations such as Little Rock Central High School. Community days offering free meals are another way the Hall family continues to invest in the neighborhood that has supported them for five decades.
Even through challenges like COVID-19 and economic uncertainty, the doors stayed open, and the mission remained rooted in providing for the community.
An Arkansas Food Hall of Fame Milestone
In 2025, K. Hall & Sons was inducted into the Arkansas Food Hall of Fame, a program that recognizes restaurants who shaped Arkansas' culinary landscape.
The honor reflects more than longevity. It recognizes a business that has preserved tradition while adapting to the needs of its community. Over the decades, K. Hall & Sons has become more than a place to eat. It is a place where stories are shared, connections are made, and Little Rock's food culture continues to thrive.
