Take a Tour of Little Rock’s Outdoor Art

In Little Rock, art isn't confined to museum walls. It's splashed across downtown buildings, tucked into alleyways, and woven into the neighborhoods that give the city its character.

With more than twenty larger-than-life murals splashed across city blocks, local and regional artists have transformed blank walls into breathtaking works that celebrate Little Rock’s spirit and creativity.

“Beneath the Surface” by Matt McLeod

West 6th St. & Main St.

“Beneath the Surface” may not be downtown’s largest mural, but it made a big splash as the first and sparked Main Street’s revitalization when it debuted in 2015. Stretching 4,300 square feet, its school of enormous koi glides through shimmering jade waters, a tranquil, eye-catching masterpiece created with the help of University of Arkansas at Little Rock art students and the first of McLeod’s three Little Rock murals.

After admiring the mural, step across the street for a bite at Samantha’s Tap Room, or head just east across Main Street to Three Fold for handmade Chinese noodles and dumplings beloved by locals.

"Through the Looking Glass" by Mark Leichliter

Vogel Schwartz Sculpture Garden | Riverfront Park

Take a closer look and you'll find that “Through the Looking Glass” doesn't just reflect its surroundings, it reflects Little Rock itself. From the river and skyline to the people who pass by, every view offers a new perspective on the city and the community that shapes it.

“Migration” by Guy Bell

East 6th St. & Scott Street

The inside of a parking garage isn’t where most people expect to find art, and that surprise is exactly what makes Guy Bell's "Migration" so captivating. His wrap-around mural of electronic bison, inspired by ancient cave paintings, is one of downtown Little Rock's most whimsical pieces.

“Migration” sits beside Baker's Alley, a block-long hub of public art. Explosive color bursts from the pavement planters, and doors throughout the alley showcase vibrant works form local artists.

"Bear Tracks" by Craig Campbell

B. Finley Vinson Plaza | 424 Markham St

Whimsical, unexpected, and full of wonder, “Bear Tracks” is one of Little Rock's newest additions to its growing public art collection. Set within the newly renovated B. Finley Vinson Plaza, the sculpture invites visitors of all ages to slow down, explore, and see downtown through a more imaginative lens.

“Yes We Can” by Steven Otis

1500 South Main St.

Technically these are two different murals, but since they share the same building, we're counting them as one stop on the tour. The north face showcases "Yes We Can," a food-themed tribute to the South Main neighborhood and the power of community collaboration. For the full experience, enjoy the view while savoring brunch at The Root Cafe, a beloved local favorite.

“Uptown Saturday Night” by Bryan Massey, Sr.

Vogel Schwartz Sculpture Garden | Riverfront Park

Music has long been part of Little Rock’s rhythm, and “Uptown Saturday Night” captures that spirit in motion. Depicting a couple dancing beside Massey’s nearby “Jazz Player” sculpture, the piece celebrates the joy, energy, and connection that music brings to the city’s riverfront.

"Woman with Dog" by Steven Otis

1500 South Main St.

The south face of the building features “Woman with Dog,” an homage to the dogs of Little Rock featuring an excited greyhound taking its owner for a walk. Sandwiched between the two murals is the ESSE Purse Museum, North America’s only museum dedicated to women’s history and their handbags and one of Little Rock’s must-see destinations. Even during these times of social distancing, the museum’s collections are viewable here.

“Sizzling Sisters” by Wayne Salge

Vogel Schwartz Sculpture Garden | Riverfront Park

With windswept forms and hair that appears to dance like flames, “Sizzling Sisters” captures movement, energy, and a touch of whimsy. One of the original sculptures installed in the Vogel Schwartz Sculpture Garden, the piece is a reminder that Little Rock's creative spirit is always in motion.
