Old State House Museum Juneteenth Deal
On June 19th, visitors can discover the history of Arkansas quilt making and see a small selection of quilts from the museum’s collection; as well as example pictures of the different styles of quilts in the collection and can even make their own no-sew quilt square to take home! More about quilts can be found at the Old Statehouse Museum website (https://collections.oldstatehouse.com/search/quilt). The Old State House Museum has an extensive quilt collection made by black Arkansans (not currently on display) and they are an important part of Arkansas history. The collection dates from the1800s to the present day and includes a variety of patterns. Many of the quilts were hand made by multi-generational families and some were even quilted by men. Numerous quilts in the OSHM collection were made with any available fabric a quilter could use such as old clothes, fabric scraps from previous sewing projects, and flour, sugar, and feed sacks. "
