In celebration of the late NEA Jazz Master Dr. Randy Weston’s approaching centennial, members of his renowned “African Rhythms” ensemble reunite to honor his legacy. Led by Weston’s longtime musical director and arranger T.K. Blue, the African Rhythms Alumni Quintet pays tribute to Weston’s pioneering fusion of African musical traditions and jazz. Influenced by legends like Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk, Weston’s sound blended West African polyrhythms, Ghanaian highlife, and orchestral jazz piano. This performance offers a powerful homage to a visionary artist who redefined the global language of jazz.
