FARMERS MARKET TO RETURN MAY 4
It's the 50th year for the popular River Market program.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (March 2) – What started in 1974 by a group of small farmers is now entering its fiftieth year as a thriving public attraction in Little Rock’s River Market District. The 2024 Little Rock Farmers Market season will open on May 4 at the River Market Pavilions.
To mark the anniversary, this year’s season is themed Back to Our Roots, according to Farmers Market Manager Elizabeth Rush.
“This year’s theme and focus will align with our mission to directly support the local community and economy,” Rush said. “Vendors will include farmers, produce brokers, locally prepared food products, art, and handcrafted specialties which may include anything from pottery to personal care items."
The 2024 season will be held each Saturday from 7 am to 2 pm through Aug. 31. Ottenheimer Market Hall, adjacent to the Pavilions, will also be open from 7 am to 2 pm. Free parking is also available in the lot behind the market, accessible from Ottenheimer Plaza and President Clinton Avenue. Free parking is also available in the River Market Parking Deck at Second Street and River Market Avenue.
The Farmers Market has been held in the two open-air River Market Pavilions since 1996.
“It’s a central Arkansas tradition,” Rush said. “The atmosphere and location are perfect for families to spend a Saturday morning and find farm-to-table options and handmade crafts.”
Many vendors accept SNAP benefits, indicated by signage in their booth. The Market also participates in the Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) program, allowing patrons to receive up to a $20 match for SNAP tokens to be used at the Market. SNAP tokens can be purchased at the Farmers Market tent in the River Market on Saturdays during the season.
Second Saturday events will also be held during the season to feature community partners with special programming. More information will be released as the programming is confirmed.
