A Soldier’s Story explores the courage, sacrifice, and lived experiences of African Americans in the U.S. military, with a special focus on Arkansans. Spanning service from the Civil War and frontier era through both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, and into today, the exhibition shows what it meant to serve a nation while still fighting for equality. Through personal artifacts, photographs, documents, uniforms, and firsthand accounts, visitors meet the individuals behind the uniform. Their stories reflect duty, resilience, family, and the lasting impact of military service on Black communities, honoring their contributions to American history and the ongoing pursuit of freedom.
