The Christmas Lighting Ceremony at the Arkansas State Capitol has a rich history dating back to the late 1930s.

With the help of a staff electrician, Secretary Crip Hall created one of the earliest holiday displays by mounting strips of lights on sheet metal around the cupola and illuminating a sprayed-silver fir tree with rotating lights. That humble beginning grew into a beloved holiday tradition, captivating generations and bringing the community together year after year.
