Each February, downtown is abuzz as Main Street prepares for Mardi Gras grandeur. Head to the South Main (SoMa) District Sat., Feb. 10, 12 PM-3 PM, for the annual parade. This year’s theme, “Purple Reign,” is sure to be a crowd pleaser with festive floats, bands, and costumes. Beads are a fan favorite, so expect plenty of them tossed from the floats. SoMa is known for its lively events, and you don’t want to miss this one.
Salute the purple, green and gold again on Sun., Feb. 11, 12 PM-5 PM, when Barkus on Main boasts the cutest dog parade in the city. Watch as furry Fidos donned in adorable attire strut their stuff along the Creative Corridor. This second annual event has already become a favorite of local pet owners.
Arrive early for the crawfish boil, Rebel Kettle Brewing Co. beer garden, hurricane station, and live music. Choose your spot along the parade route and prepare to be thoroughly entertained – then stick around for the Mardi Gras Block Party following the pageantry of paws.
Downtown will be the place to “bead!”
